Reactive Hazards
The U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board
(www.csb.gov)
has issued an investigation report on
reactive hazards. The Chemical Safety Board conducted this extensive
investigation because of several severe incidents in the U.S. and elsewhere
that involved uncontrolled chemical reactions.
Unwin Company consultants were selected by the Center for Chemical Process
Safety (CCPS) to develop sound guidance for managing reactive (chemical
reactivity) hazards.
As a result of these efforts, you will have the
information needed to:
| |
|
identify whether you have chemical reactivity hazards,
|
|
| |
|
reduce the hazards by making your facility inherently safer,
|
|
determine the true nature of the remaining reactivity hazards, and
|
|
manage the remaining hazards by avoiding uncontrolled chemical reactions.
|
This guidance is in the form of two CCPS publications, Guidelines for Safe
Storage and Handling of Reactive Materials (1995), and Essential Practices for
Managing Chemical Reactivity Hazards (2003).
We also assisted in the preparation of CCPS' first Safety Alert, Reactive
Material Hazards: What You Need to Know.
